The most powerful school leaders aren’t the most strategic.
They’re the most simple.
Every day, principals are handed binders, blueprints, and bullet-pointed jargon that’s supposed to “drive results.”
So they rewrite the school mission statement.
Redesign the walk-through forms.
Rename the vision.
And no one listens.
Because the message is clear as mud. And the staff stopped listening two initiatives ago.
When your leadership gets lost in the fog of complexity, your people stop following.
They don’t resist change because they’re lazy.
They resist because they don’t get it.
Confusion breeds compliance. Clarity builds commitment.
And complexity? Complexity kills culture.
If you want to be disruptive, don’t be clever.
Be clear.
Simplicity isn’t just good communication—it’s radical.
It cuts through bureaucracy like a machete through red tape.
Simple leaders are dangerous because their ideas spread.
They don’t talk about “learning targets.”
They say: “Here’s what great looks like.”
They don’t say: “We’re scaffolding a tiered behavioral intervention framework.”
They say: “We teach kids how to treat people right.”
Simple doesn’t mean dumbed down.
It means turned up—to a level everyone can act on.
